Southern California sunshine turned Aunt Ilene's backyard into our own private resort where 'just five more minutes' in the pool somehow stretched into five more hours! The adults established an unspoken rotation of who had to sacrifice their lounge chair comfort to referee the increasingly elaborate diving contests that evolved from simple cannonballs to themed performances featuring questionable slow-motion effects. Meanwhile, Aunt Ilene's famous 'add a little of this, a splash of that' cocktail experiments resulted in alarmingly colorful concoctions that Dad bravely volunteered to taste-test, his expressions afterward providing entertainment almost as good as the poolside gymnastics.
